An interactive learning opportunity geared at all interested parties with a little background knowledge about SI. This course can be opened to therapists, pedagogues (teachers in preschool and school settings), and psychologists.
Content of course: introduction of the special meaning of SI for occupational therapists, brief history, scientific basis, terminology, and principles of Dr. Ayres’ theory of Sensory Integration and the treatment approach she derived from it. Ayres’ SI will be presented as an evidence-based approach strongly rooted in the understanding of OT and Occupational Science.
Teaching methods: lecture, self-experience ,group work, videos, video analyses, discussions, and a book table to provide participants with a rich and comprehensive picture of SI.
After this course, participants will:
- Differentiate and define concepts related to SI
- Know the history of the origins of SI and its founder, Dr. Ayres
- Have some insight into the neurophysiological basis and other scientific foundations of SI theory
- Understand the role of sensory processing for development and praxis in daily life
- Know and recognize SI disorders
- Know the key principles of SI therapy and what non-therapists can do
Certificate: a certificate of attendance for participants who are present in the course at least 90% of the time.
After this Course
Therapists (OT, PT, SLP) participating in this one-day course will be eligible to continue with SI102 of the certification program SI THERAPYoriginal following the GSIÖ Curriculum.
